Free Web Resources Applets are short programs written in a language (such as Java) which can be accessed by an internet user. Most of the programs are written to perform or demonstrate a particular topic. Many of these are used by universities or individual instructors for a particular course. Some are limited to subscribers or students at a particular school or in a particular class. Many are available to the public so these can be easily accessed. The only thing you have to keep track of is where they are located and if the applet is still available on the internet. Some I use have been accessible for over ten years and others seem to be shut down without warning. New applets are always being introduced or improved, so if one is lost you can always find another. To locate applets, just type the topic and the word applet after it such as: math applet, physics applet, laser applet etc. Certain websites have many applets over various topics such as http://101science.com/chemJAVA.htm which will actually get you to a variety of different science topics including physics, biology and math. Another good site is http://www.nasa.gov/home/index.html which will get you to a variety of applets and other items for both students and instructors. Another site is for welding and is located at http://www.metallicfusion.com/symbols_and_definitions.htm#dimensions to fillet which provides symbols and examples of the weld. Other areas such at English or English as a second language http://worldofenglish.com/exercises.html . Various sites and applets. http://members.shaw.ca/ron.blond/Vern.APPLET/ for practice using calipers. http://www.upscale.utoronto.ca/GeneralInterest/Harrison/Flash/#sound_waves is a collection of applets which are usually higher level but contains many topics for physics. http://www.physics.umd.edu/courses/Phys104/ramos/applets.html is another site with physics applets but some are not available to the public. http://www.eclecticenglish.com/ for English as a second language. http://rkt.chem.ox.ac.uk/description.html for many high level topics but also has an applets for learning the Chinese characters. http://rkt.chem.ox.ac.uk/tutorials/surfaces/solids.html#twodApplet is an applet showing atomic structure of different solids. http://www.falstad.com/circuit/ is an electronic circuit simulator. http://people.clarkson.edu/~jsvoboda/eta/ecsa.html is for simple electrical circuits which may be useful for high school. http://www.fourmilab.ch/yoursky/ is a night sky map with various applets. http://org.ntnu.no/solarcells/applet/applet.php demonstrates solar cells with various other applets. http://www.cut-the-knot.org/games.shtml is math games. http://www.walter-fendt.de/ph14e/ lots of good physics applets but some can not be accessed.
